There’s no doubt about it, a working knowledge of Spanish is essential to life and work in the United States today. Whether you’re a total beginner, a former student in need of a little brush-up, a professional desiring to comunicate with the Spanish-speaking community, a traveler or someone in need that final polish to achieve fluency, Spain on Main has a course for you.

Just like at our Italian division, Ecco Italy, a spirit of lightness and play makes the necessary rules and rigors of Spanish language learning fun. The emphasis is on learning to communicate (speak!) as quickly and effectively as possible, but without intimidation! Spain on Main’s artful, media-enhanced location (with Ecco Italy in the Tower of the Main Street Market) helps bring language and culture to life as we practice shopping in stores and markets or work on grammar and conversation exercises around the farm table or under the roof deck’s pergola.

Spain on Main students are a delightful mix of age ranges, professional backgrounds and interests. Recent classes have included singles, full-time parents, grad students, retired folk, a band manager, a contractor, a professor, a veterinarian, a realtor, a wine consultant and a home-schooled teenager. Clearly we all share the same desire to speak Spanish and learn more about hispanic cultures….and ourselves!

¿QUÉ TAL? UNO: CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH FOR BEGINNERS

Que’ Tal Uno B

Mondays and Wednesdays, 9-10:15am
Sept 8- Oct 15 ($250 6 week course)
Sept 8 – Nov 19 ($395 full 11 week course)

Mornings are ideal for language learning: the mind is still fresh and uncluttered and anything seems possible. Coffee adds that extra kick. Join dynamic instructor (and certified Morning Person) Lyn Cooke for this engaging introduction to conversational Spanish at Spain on Main. The equivalent of our Que’ Tal Uno B course in terms of content (basic conversation in present tense suggested), this early morning course has the extra advantage of meeting two times per week – so you learn more, quicker! (starts with Chapter 5 of our book/cd program, Oxford’s Take off in Latin American Spanish.

Join Mexico City native Maria Schwedhelm for this creative introduction to conversational Spanish – with a big dose of Mexican culture! This course assumes some conversational ability and grammar knowledge in the present tense only, and picks up with Chapter 5 of our book/cd program Oxford’s Take off in Latin American Spanish.

Do you know the basics of Spanish grammar, but don’t feel confident about jumping into conversation? Did you have 4 years of Spanish in high school or college but, since that was a while ago, you don’t feel “steady on your feet” with the language anymore? You once spent a year abroad in Spain and came back near-fluent… but have rarely used it since? Coming across Spanish-language media, and running into more and more Spanish speakers locally, and wish you could strengthen your conversation skills? Your kid or kids are learning the language and you’d like to be able to support them in that?

These are just some of the situations that might lead you to this course. *Qué tal 2: Intermediate Spanish for Advanced Beginners – is designed for you, the busy adult who either has some background with the language, or has “a feel for it” and strong motivation to learn more.

Through explanations, exercises and lots of oral and written practice, you’ll both refresh and further perfect what you already know! Ideal for advanced beginner-intermediate students.
